SODIUM ALGINATE
Biomaterial textiles.
Over the past year, I have been experimenting with different recipes using sodium alginate.
The research is driven by my interest in developing a paper and textile-like material.
I have mainly worked on combining sodium alginate with food waste, specifically organic matter such as grains, peels, and leftover water from cooking or brewing processes.
After testing the recipes on small samples, I decided to scale up the production, which is one of the central goals of my research.
You can see an example of this work in the "Morning Coffee" installation, where I showcase a completely waterproof coffee based leather.
I strongly believe that this type of textile will become part of our everyday lives in the coming years. Personally, I am extremely interested in its residential applications, as well as its potential uses in set design and events, fields in which many polluting materials are still widely used.
In the future, I would like to connect this research to the production cycles of foods traditionally harvested in the Mediterranean region, and to the gestures, rituals, and communities that shape them.
